The HP2 ('High Performance', 2-cylinder boxer engine) caused a sensation from the outset, winning the 2005 Mondial du Deux-Roues award from the Motorcycle Design Association. It has to be said that its design was not lacking in audacity: geared entirely towards off-road performance, it was sufficiently minimalist to limit its unladen weight to 175 kg. The BMW Telelever fork was replaced by a good-sized upside-down fork, and an air spring/shock unit took care of the rear suspension, providing plenty of travel. Aesthetically, the integration of the frame, fairing, and mechanical elements made it an undeniable success. With its 105 bhp twin-cylinder engine derived from that of the 1200 GS, it was also the most powerful in its category.
Purchased in 2017 in Spain, the BMW HP2 Enduro on offer here has been fitted with a new rear shock absorber and tailpipe, however, the original components will be supplied with the bike, as well as two Supermotard rims. The steering column and seat cover have been replaced, and the luggage rack is in carbon. With just over 38,100 km on the odometer, this beautifully-conditioned and exceptionally well-built machine will appeal to off-road enthusiasts who have an appreciation of the beauty it exudes.
