The Orientalist Paintings department, headed by Olivier Berman, has become an undisputed European leader in this discipline. Today, Orientalist works are benefiting from the emergence of new institutional and private buyers in the Arab world, resulting in strong demand for artists such as Dinet, Girardet, Ernst, Bridgman, Deutsch, Roubtzoff and Benjamin Constant. With over 45 world records, the department holds the sales records for Girardet, Roubtzoff and Dinet.
With the creation of the Majorelle & ses Contemporains sales, Artcurial has become the world leader for Jacques Majorelle. The auction house has sold over 150 works by the artist, including thirteen of the fifteen highest bids since 2011, as well as the world record with the Kasbah rouge sold for 1.1 M€.
These names have been joined since 2014 by numerous artists such as Iacovleff, Legrand, Lucas-Robiquet, Quinquaud and Ackein.
The remarkable results achieved in this specialty are the fruit of rigorous expertise and selection, as well as innovative choices such as the initiation of themed sales and traveling exhibitions: Une Passion Marocaine, the Pierre Bergé & Yves Saint Laurent collection at the Palace Es Saadi in Marrakech in 2015. The success of the Paris#Marrakech sales from 2016 to 2018 led to the opening of a subsidiary in Marrakech.
Since 2019, Artcurial Maroc has been holding its sales at the prestigious La Mamounia Palace. Popular with an international clientele, these sessions bring together 80% of foreign buyers: major collectors, museum institutions and foundations.
