A pioneer in this speciality, Artcurial organised the first sale dedicated to contemporary African art in Paris in 2010, with 65 artists representing 24 nationalities.
In 2017, Artcurial held a contemporary African art sale entitled African Spirit as part of its auctions in Marrakech, making the most of the city’s dynamism to attract international collectors. Further auctions in 2018 enabled the department to set 12 world records in two years for artists such as Bodys Isek Kingelez, Malick Sidibé and Seydou Keïta. Since 2019, Artcurial has been organising up to two sales per year at La Mamounia in Marrakech, with the aim of presenting quality works by renowned artists and new talents.
In 2018, Artcurial launched Marrakech Art Week which was held two years in a row in the city: a true cultural hub for the promotion and development of the African art scene.
In parallel, the department continues to develop in Paris by organising bi-annual live sales as well as online auctions, allowing this increasingly popular art form to be introduced to art lovers and collectors.
Artcurial’s specialists are at your disposal for free and confidential valuations of your works of contemporary African art.

On June 6th, Artcurial will hold its Twenty One Contemporary auction, including creations by major international living artists alongside fifteen exceptional works from the Africa First collection. Among the artworks on sale are those by Julien Creuzet, Aimé Mpane and Sadikou Oukpedjo, currently representing their countries at the Venice Biennale, a tapestry by Athi-Patra Ruga which has been exhibited at La Fondation Louis Vuitton, and an emblematic wall installation by Ibrahim Mahama.
From February 27th to March 31st 2024, Artcurial's Contemporary African Art department, in partnership with Gallery OOA, will be exhibiting eighteen portraits by artist Marion Boehm, including her latest works produced in 2023. This varied ensemble traces her various artistic explorations around nomadism, femininity and the diversity of African identities, and pays tribute to her unique and committed oeuvre. All portraits will be available for purchase at the exhibition.
