The Servi-Car, a utility vehicle, had an exceptionally long career, from 1932–1973. A sort of American equivalent to the French ‘triporteurs’, it consisted of a motorbike where the rear section was replaced by a traction axle with a storage box on top. Powered by the sturdy 750cc ‘flathead’ V-twin, which changed little during its lifetime, and with a payload of 225kg, it was used as a delivery and breakdown vehicle, and was also very popular with the police.
Doubtless imported from the United States, this Servi-Car was first registered in Italy on 5 October 1999 and then bought by Umberto Panini on 28 December 2000. It is one of the first versions with a storage box made from metal and wood, rather than the fibreglass used later. It was restored using its original parts and has been certified by the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano). It has a P.R.A. A rare, interesting and highly original vehicle, it will not fail to attract the attention of the most blasé of enthusiasts, while it can still be used for practical purposes.
