Designed by Bradford-born Alfred A. Scott, the first motorbike to bear his name had very avant-garde features, with a very open tubular frame and a liquid-cooled two-stroke engine positioned very low, creating a low center of gravity. Scott bikes excelled in competition, most notably at the Isle of Man TT, and it was after the First World War that the manufacturer launched the Squirrel, the first sports model to be offered to the general public. Compared to the Scott Standard Tourer, the Squirrel was lighter and more powerful. It then evolved into the Super Squirrel, with a three-speed gearbox instead of the previous two-speed system.
The Super Squirrel from the Panini collection has been restored to its original condition, and the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) plaque no. 0649 it bears confirms its historical interest. It's a 500 cc version that's sure to catch the eye of enthusiasts, with its front-mounted radiator, large under-seat fuel tank, and separate lubrication system. It's a rare piece, a testament to the non-conformism of a talented engineer who refused to compromise on technical efficiency.
