- Extremely rare (approx. 540 built)
- Prestigious name and engine
- Superb condition
Originating from a suggestion made by Chris Garville and Jim Cotherman, the MV distributors in the USA, who were convinced of the commercial success of an expensive luxury motorbike, the 750 America was supposed to conquer the American market. Indeed, at the press launch in Milan, the CEO Luigi Ghisleri announced that several thousand units would be produced. But these figures proved too optimistic, and today the total number of 750 Americas built over two years is estimated at 540. American sales did not come up to expectations, and given the difficulties it faced selling its bikes in North America, MV concentrated on distributing the MV America in Europe.
Apart from its presentation and finish, it differed little from its predecessor, the 750 Sport. The acclaimed twin-cam four-cylinder engine which made the company famous was bored out to 790cc and produced 75bhp at 8500rpm, enabling this superb machine to exceed 190kph, or even 200kph with a fairing. It had disc brakes and a Ceriani fork with bigger legs than on the 750 Sport, along with a silver-coloured frame. As they were handcrafted, the finish could vary from one bike to another.
Bought by our client in January 2018 from Harald Thurner Motorradhof, a classic motorbike specialist at Oberickelsheim in Germany, this 750 America is fitted with Magni exhausts and Brembo brake discs (instead of the standard Scarab items). In immaculate condition and with just over 27,000km on the odometer, this is a rare opportunity to savour the thrill and prestige of a four-cylinder MV at a more affordable price than its predecessor.
