The 4x4 version of the Mehari only had a very limited production, since only 1,213 examples were manufactured. In comparison to the 145,000 two-wheel drive units produced, the “trial car” (as advertised then) is today a rare and coveted collector’s item. As confirmed to us by the Conservatoire Citroën, this 2-seater Mehari left the factory on the 11th of January 1980 and its first registration document states that it was registered in Aisne on the 21st of May 1980, the day it was purchased at the Saint Quentin dealership. Its first owner kept it until 2003 and sold it to an enthusiast from Loir et Cher; the latter then sold it to its current owner in 2006. It therefore had 3 owners since new.

A folder of invoices from 1987 (when the total mileage was 22,266 km) bears witness to the evolution of its mileage up to the current one, now displaying just below 27,000 km since new. This low usage is substantiated by the time meter, which shows barely 50 hours of use in 4x4. Still fitted with its original engine, this example is in original condition and has never been restored, simply serviced over the years. It has its tarpaulins and lateral protections, its user manual and the original servicing logbook. The last work carried out in 2004 included draining, replacing the universal joint bellows, elastics of the convertible top and the installation of a reinforcement piece around the front flooring. A fun vehicle with astonishing crossing capabilities, this rare 4x4 version is exceptional for its low mileage, its original condition and its documented history.
