In 1957, Triumph returned to the 350cc class with the Twenty One, whose pushrod twin shared a single casing with the gearbox, a first for Triumph. It later gave rise to the Tiger 90, whose name – like the Tiger 100 – alluded to its top speed of 90mph (145kph). As its styling recalled the famous Bonneville, it was nicknamed the ‘Baby Bonnie’ at its launch.

The Tiger 90 from the collection comes from the United States and has been modified with a 500cc Triumph 5TA engine of the same design as the original 350. The registration document has been validated for this engine capacity. Combining the light weight of the Tiger 90 and the power of the slightly bigger engine, the bike is, according to its owner, very easy to ride. It is, moreover, one of his favourites. It is fitted at present with a raised exhaust, recalling the craze for ‘scrambler’ bikes in England and the US, made popular by events such as the International Six Days Trial in Wales. An icon of the British motorcycle industry, this bike has the sporty and original appearance that suits its energetic character.
