The American market has always been important for British motorcycle manufacturers and racing successes achieved by Norton impressed buyers across the Atlantic. Norton followed Triumph’s footsteps by introducing its twin-cylinder version in 1948, but the 500 cc of the Model 88 did not allow it to reach “the ton”, meaning 160 km/h. To meet this challenge and compete with the Triumph Thunderbird and BSA Golden Flash, Norton responded with the 99 Dominator, with its twin-cylinder engine increased to 600 cc; with its “Featherbed” frame and “Roadholder” fork, it presented excellent road handling qualities.
The 99 Dominator in this collection was purchased in England from a private individual and was later restored with new parts by our collector. Finished in a lovely light green colour, it has a sporty finish with aluminium wheels, clip-on handlebars and a single-seater with a backrest. After a health check and fluid refill, this motorcycle will enable its new owner to experience the joys of riding a classic British twin-cylinder machine front the best years.
