Towards the end of the 1960s, British manufacturers faced a wave of powerful and reliable motorcycles from the “Rising Sun” country. At Norton, the 750 Atlas was showing signs of ageing and the manufacturer responded with the 750 Commando which was launched in 1968. The engine was not new but it was tilted forward and mounted in its frame using the new flexible “Isolastic” system, which helped reduce the vibrations that were invariably present in British twin-cylinder engines. The bike’s design received particular attention, with exhausts that go up towards the rear and on the so-called “Fastback” version, a streamlined fairing that extends from the seat and flows into the rear light. Boasting good road handling qualities and having received various upgrades, this bike enabled Norton to revive its sales. It remained in the catalogue until 1977.
Purchased in England, this Norton Commando was in excellent condition and did not require any significant work. Barely used by its current owner and presented in red colour, it is in a healthy condition worthy of this legendary model, as well as a worthy competitor to the Triumph Trident, Moto Guzzi V7 and Honda 750 Four.
