Of all the 4-cylinder motorbikes produced at the turn of the century, the FN is undoubtedly the most well-known as it was the most widely distributed and exported. Carefully crafted, with a five-bearing crankshaft and cardan drive, it even distinguished itself in competition, taking third place in class at the 1908 Tourist Trophy. According to the advertisement at the time, "Unless you have carefully studied the 4-cylinder principle, you cannot appreciate the advantages that its simplicity offers over other single or twin cylinder engines."
The FN on offer comes from a major collection in Brescia, Italy. It was bought by the current owners' father, who was a specialist in engine rebuilding and was attracted by the appeal of this unusual bike. Having remained in Italy since the 1980s, at the time of purchase it belonged to a major collector, E. Comelli, and had been restored with great care. In November 1994, it was certified by the motorcycle commission of the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) under number 2628, and has been used sparingly ever since. This is a 493 cc version, without a gearbox. Rare, prestigious, complete, and faithful to the original in its well-preserved quality restoration, this bike is in working order and will be able to give its new owner the astonishing sensation experienced by motorcyclists at the turn of the century.
