This Ariel stands out from the crowd thanks to its particularly original technique: not only does its engine have four cylinders, they are also set up in a square shape, hence its name “Square Four”. Designed by Edward Turner (to whom we also owe the first Triumph twin and the Daimler V8 of the 1950s), this 1,000 cc overhead-valve engine consists of two side-by-side twin cylinders. Powered by a Solex carburettor, it is particularly flexible and gives this motorcycle a refined personality. Sold new in Milan in 1941, this Ariel G4 was in Biella in 1945. It was sold in 1978 to Mr. Felice Grana from Vercelli, then sold again in 1982 to Giorgio Bosa who resided in the same city where it was registered VC 004722. Following a succession of eight owners, it was taken out from circulation in 1988. It has a P.R.A. It undoubtedly had an old restoration carried out but has retained its original accessories including the panel of instruments fitted on the tank; with the speedometer, oil pressure gauge and clock complemented by an ammeter on the headlight, it truly showcases the exclusive character of this rare machine which will certainly attract the attention of connoisseurs.
