- Scarce version of the SL 600
- Superb state of preservation
- 444 bhp V12 engine
- Unrivalled combination of comfort, luxury, power and driving flexibility
In the 1990s, the buyers of Mercedes AMGs were mainly German and Japanese. The SL 600 we are presenting has an AMG plaque written in Japanese and bearing an order number, which suggests that the AMG preparation was originally ordered by a Japanese customer direct from the preparator. At the time, AMG-prepared V12-powered Mercedes were marketed on a limited basis (notably as S-Class saloons) and it was not until the late 1990s that the SL 73 officially joined the AMG range with its 7.3-litre V12 engine.
The present car is therefore particularly rare with its 6-litre V12 in its 444 bhp version, according to its owner, which is 50 bhp more than the standard SL 600. Moreover, it is in excellent condition in its midnight blue paintwork, with its 17-inch AMG wheels installed according to our collector's wishes instead of the original 18 inches.
The interior boasts all the luxury of presentation and equipment for a car of this stature, with beautiful two-tone black and grey leather seats, gorgeous lacquered wood trim and an elegant leather and wood steering wheel. The odometer reads 42,146 km and there is every reason to believe that this is the genuine mileage. A hard top completes the package, the bonnet hides the 12 spectacular engine pipes and the whole thing gives a particularly well-groomed impression. Although probably less sporty than a V8-powered SL 60, this SL 600 AMG V12 offers a level of flexibility and driving comfort that is rarely equalled. With its cabriolet body and immaculate condition, it will turn any journey into a great moment of pleasure.
