- Unrivalled prestige, only 556 built
- Superb engine, fantastic sound
- Immaculate condition, signed by Giacomo Agostini
MV Agusta’s success in competition won admiration from enthusiasts everywhere. At the start of the 1950s, when the championships were dominated by the big English ‘singles’ from Norton, AJS or Matchless, the company’s choice of a four-cylinder unit caused a stir. Derived from the 500 Gilera, this fabulous twin-cam engine notched up a great many victories with the greatest riders such as John Surtees, Mike Hailwood and Giacomo Agostini. These racing machines led to a range of bikes going on sale, starting with the 600, presented in 1965. Its engine had the same configuration as the Grand Prix machines, but the bike featured a cardan shaft and was clearly positioned as a touring bike. The 750 S which followed was much sportier: presented at the Milan Show in 1970, it was continually improved and the 69bhp developed at 7800rpm by its four-cylinder engine with its Dell’Orto carburettors let it reach nearly 200kph while producing a fantastic sound. In period, this refined machine faced competition from the Honda CB 750, which was cheaper and easier to use, but today, the MV’s racy lines, rarity and pedigree make it one of the most sought-after touring bikes of all time. From 1970–1974, just 556 units were built.
Purchased in 2020 from a collector from La Ciotat, this 750 S is a 1974 version featuring the final improvements made to the model, including the optional front disc brakes. As well as its immaculate finish, the signature of Giacomo Agostini can be seen on the seat backrest (and also on the registration document), along with that of Arturo Magni, the famous racing engineer, on the fuel tank. In a valuation report in December 2018, Arnaud Séné described the 750 S as being “completely original and maintained with great care, strictly respecting its original specification”. The odometer shows the very low figure of 816km.
It is extremely rare for a bike like this to come onto the market, which should not leave fans of the marque unmoved.
Please note the French title is in process and will be delivered as soon as possible after the sale to the buyer.
