- Less than 35,600 km from new
- Numerous options
- Rare state of preservation
- 2+2 model
- No reserve
After spending most of its life in Japan, with probably only one owner, this 500 SL returned to Germany in 2015. That's where our collector purchased it in February 2016 from a specialist in Oberhaching, near Munich. With just 32,862 km on the clock, it was immediately handed over to Mercedes Grünwald for a complete overhaul prior to being driven home. The sales invoice lists a host of optional extras, including electric windows, central locking, heated seats, electric right-hand door mirror, leather upholstery, cruise control, automatic gearbox, power steering, external temperature gauge, air conditioning, self-locking differential, hard-top... It features its original white paintwork and original midnight blue upholstery, both of which are particularly well-preserved. This is a 2+2 version and the rear seats are in a condition that suggests they have never been used. The same is true of the spare wheel. The car’s condition is superb and consistent with its low mileage (35,579 km in the catalogue). It is accompanied by the maintenance booklet issued upon the car's return to Europe.
It's rare to find a 500 SL that is so well-preserved and so comprehensively equipped. It's sure to appeal to discerning fans of the brand with the three-pointed star, as well as those who like to travel in the comfort of a luxury convertible that is as capable as it is hard-wearing.
