The Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 used the V8 engine and automatic transmission from the 600 and had the same air suspension, making it an extremely comfortable and formidably effective model, with a 0-100kph time of 6.5s. Its 250 horsepower and legendary comfort made it the model of choice for most Formula 1 drivers at the time. Faster than a Porsche 911, it readily found its place in touring car races and rallies with an engine bored out to 6.8 litres by AMG in 1971, making it the first car entered in competition by Mercedes-AMG.

This 6.3 was delivered by the dealer at Boulogne-Billancourt on 22 November 1971 to one Elise Massé, who lived in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. As its stamped-up service book confirms, it was regularly maintained by the dealership at Port-Marly up to 120,311 km. It was then taken into stock by the Piguet Citroën garage (in the 13th arrondissement of Paris) where it was sold to the current owner’s brother-in-law, a true car enthusiast. When he bought it some ten years ago, he had it completely repainted in a chocolate brown close to its original colour, and a full service carried out. The odometer is currently showing 41,000 km and the car drives beautifully with, as it should be, excellent oil pressure. Originally equipped with steel wheels and hubcaps, he had the alloy wheels characteristic of the model fitted. The original wheels and hubcaps will also be supplied. The interior is absolutely superb, with brown/beige velour and brown carpets in very good condition. The wood trim is impeccable, with no cracks. The bodywork shows no signs of corrosion and all the chromework is undamaged. It is fitted with four electric windows and a retro-style Becker radio. The 6.3 will be supplied with all its user manuals, including the service book, in their original plastic wallet.

This is a highly desirable 6.3 which can be easily used by any collector or family man who is a fan of the three-pointed star and would like to enjoy the very modern performance of this powerful and comfortable machine.

Please note that the vehicle's fuel pump is broken and will be replaced at the seller's costs after the sale.
