From the late 90s on, when AMG models were produced in Mercedes factories following the acquisition of a stake in the company by the manufacturer with the three-pointed star, the cars designed by the tuner became increasingly popular with a sporty clientele, and all top-of-the-range models soon saw the birth of an AMG version. This is the case for the CL 500 coupé, which saw the introduction of the CL 55 AMG, featuring a 5.4-litre V8 that produces almost 350 bhp. At the turn of the century, cars of this size and power weren't something you saw on the road!

Bought new by our collector, this CL 55 was used for personal travel and, with just under 49,900 km on the clock, is in remarkable condition. Invoices and technical reports show that it has been regularly maintained, to which its condition also bears witness. Its light grey colour and black interior give it an understated look that barely hints at the muscle hidden beneath the bonnet, with only the handsome five-spoke AMG wheels suggesting as to its exclusivity. The ventilated and heated seats are as good as new, and the interior with its varnished wood trim testifies to the level of luxury this model enjoyed. The transparent sunroof provides plenty of light and fresh air when open. Accompanied by a file documenting the history of the vehicle, within a set of logbooks, and a copy of the provisional registration document dated April 2001, this CL 55 AMG is a superb example of a model combining the luxury of a top-of-the-range Mercedes with the performance of a sports car.
