- The pinnacle of Facel production
According to the archives held by the Amicale Facel, this car was ordered new in the United States through importer Max Hoffman. According to its serial number, this was the 79th Facel II produced. In 'Tudor Grey' with matching leather upholstery, it was powered by a 6.3-litre Chrysler Typhoon V8 developing 383 bhp and features a Torqueflite automatic transmission. The car's equipment included disc brakes, a self-locking differential, power steering, electric windows and a car radio with electric aerial, along with spoked wheels and an optional air conditioning system.
This car was bought by a European collector who, after importing it, treated it to a top-quality restoration. Completely stripped down to the sheet metal, the bodywork showed no signs of corrosion or accident damage and was given a splendid dark blue paint finish. The upholstery has been magnificently renewed in red leather and the powertrain has also been revised. To improve the electrical system, a modern alternator has been installed.
This car is one of 183 examples of the Facel II, the successor model to the HK500 and considered to be the pinnacle of the French luxury brand. Its breathtaking design, with its slender roof and fluid yet muscular body, delivers top-level performance. Many celebrities snapped this model up for themselves, including Tony Curtis, Charlie Drake, Ringo Starr, Rob Walker, the King of Cambodia, the Shah of Iran and Count Volpi. The future owner of this Facel II will therefore be able to step into the shoes of a star before getting behind the wheel and savouring the infinite pleasure provided by this extraordinary car - and let's face it, the most beautiful model from the last French luxury brand.
