An Italian Neoclassical parcel-gilt and cream painted console and its pier glass, Tuscany, late 18th century

CONDITION REPORT :

Fair overall condition despite the inevitable shocks and marks in accordance with age and use. Scratches and marks to the marble top as well as tiny chips on its external moulding, not visually distressing. The console and its mirror have been regilt and relacquered. The structure is wobbly. Shocks and wears to the gilding revealing the gesso underneath in places. Traces of woodworms in places.

The belt has been reinforced by means of seatblocks and its rear crossbar has been replaced. Traces of old restorations to the back of the laurel garlands on the belt. Accident to one of the rose decorating the belt, it would need to be restored.

Restorations to the back of both of the urns decorating the sides of the mirror. Accident to the left urn as well as to the cul de lamp of the mirror which would need to be restored. The mirror is foxed.

Accidents to the right hand side griffin’s wing as well as to the the left hand side griffin’s urn decorating the top of his head. Traces of old restorations to the back of the far upper area of the folliage decorating the pediment.
