It was in Spain –where it had spent several decades, after being imported from Germany – that its current owner found this 190 SL in 2018. A connoisseur and demanding collector, he then set about a full, high-quality restoration. The car was completely stripped down, the body taken back to bare metal and the sills and floors replaced before it was painted an attractive metallic blue, in keeping with the colours available when new. At the same time, the running gear was stripped down, treated and refurbished, as were the engine, gearbox and rear axle, which were completely stripped down and overhauled. When the car was reassembled, the wiring loom was remade and all the body seals renewed. The black leather upholstery and dark blue hood received the same attention. Naturally, the wheels were stripped and repainted and new tyres fitted, and the exhaust replaced. For greater comfort, but without sacrificing its appearance, a Becker Bluetooth radio was installed. Completed in 2022, the total bill for this extensive restoration was nearly 70,000 €, and the car has covered barely 500km since, for its final shakedown. Ready to take to the road, this handsome roadster is the chance to take advantage of the high-quality work and countless hours spent on it, without the worries. A very wise choice.
