- Superb condition
- Sought-after 2.8-litre 6-cylinder petrol version
- Magnificent original cloth interior, air-conditioning
- High-quality restoration
Sold new in Milan, this Mercedes G-Class 280 is in absolutely superb condition. It has been meticulously restored and closer examination reveals its immaculate underbody, which is free from rust, as well as excellent paintwork in the shade of green typical of the model. The interior is a match for the attractive exterior, with seats in vinyl and the original plaid cloth, and a faultless dashboard. The original equipment includes a rev counter, air-conditioning, a Becker radio and fog lamps. In addition, the car comes with its owner’s manual, jack and two sets of keys.
It is important to note that this G-Class 280 is fitted with the twin-cam six-cylinder petrol engine developing 170 bhp, giving it much better performance than the 230 model or the diesel engines offered by Mercedes at the time. Moreover, a G-Class 280 won the Paris-Dakar in 1983, driven by Jacky Ickx and Claude Brasseur.
Thanks to its solid construction, off-road abilities and long career, which spanned 39 years and only came to an end in 2018, the Mercedes G-Class ("Geländewagen", or off-road vehicle) has become a truly iconic model, much sought after by enthusiasts. Examples of the first version in good condition are few and far between, which makes the model we are presenting particularly interesting.
