- Matching numbers and colours
- Rare model, T6 version with double grille
- Recently restored and complete with extensive file of invoices
In 1961, to meet the demand for 356 coupés, Porsche asked the Karmann coachbuilder, which produced 356 convertibles, to weld on hardtops with a view to transforming them into coupes. A new 356 model appeared briefly for 2 years, under the names Karmann Hardtop or Notchback coupé. This very rare version offers more light in the cabin and improved visibility.
The Porsche certificate of authenticity for this 356 reveals that it is a matching numbers car in its original Ruby Red configuration, with a black leatherette interior. In 2019, its current owner purchased it from a 356 specialist in the United States, who was attracted by the unique lines and the extensive file of invoices tracing its history. The 356 made its way across the Atlantic to undergo a complete bare-bones restoration. The interior has also been given a new look, with black upholstery and matching carpets, as well as door trims featuring an elegant red piping to match the body colour. In 2024, the mechanics were restored, including the installation of new Weber carburettors.
This fine example of a 356 Karmann Hardtop is an opportunity to acquire a 356 model with a limited production run, few of which are still in existence today - with some having been converted into convertibles. This recently restored example is a collector's item for any enthusiast of the marque, allowing its owner to stand out from the other 356 owners.
