- Desirable SO 23 original version
- Major restoration
- 80 hp engine
- Functional and reliable
The Combi SO 23 is one of the holy grails among collectors of this model: this is the Camping Car version put together by Westfalia and produced at the end of the 1950s. It is characterised by its small hatch in the roof and its specific wooden layouts. As a fine connoisseur of this model, its current owner was actively looking for the SO 23 and acquired this example in April 1960, as evidenced by its Volkswagen certificate from the USA, since it included all of its specific essential accessories. He carried out an extensive restoration for this van, including the stripping and restoration of the bodywork, as well as the treatment of the hollow bodies. In order to blend well into modern traffic, it was fitted with a rebuilt 1.6L 80hp engine. The running gear was restored, so was the interior with its ingenious fittings such as the cupboards and the removable table. The upholstery and curtains were also restored. A cupboard was fitted and placed on the hinged door, similar to the later SO 33 version. It’s been always equipped with little details that makes this vehicle charming, such as the awning support, the hammock support to accommodate a child or the removable front bench seat with the curtain, which can convert the front compartment into a bedroom. Complete with a useful double USB socket, this beautiful, well-equipped and reliable Combi is fully functional and is ready to take you on all your journeys this summer!
