At the end of the 2014 season, Mercedes had every reason to be a happy manufacturer, at least on the sporting level. It had indeed dominated the Formula 1 season from start to finish, winning both constructor and driver Formula 1 world titles. In fact, Mercedes went on to win 16 of the 19 Grand Prix, also thanks to both its drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, the latter being crowned world champion. Such success deserved a tribute, hence why Mercedes decided to build a special edition of the SL 63 AMG roadster, one of the most powerful cars in its model range. This series of 38 cars was equally divided into two sets of 19 units (referring to 19 Grand Prix), the “Rosberg” version and the “Hamilton” version. According to the manufacturer, both drivers collaborated to add final touches to their respective versions.
The first one was in white glacier with silvery inserts and matching upholstery, whilst the other version had the opposite, black colour and highlighted in gold accessories. The carpets were among the most bespoke details on these cars: on the Rosberg version, it displayed the Hockenheim race track where the German driver won the race, and on the Hamilton version, it showed the Silverstone circuit, commemorating the British driver’s first place. Other finishing details gave these models quite an exclusive character. Under the bonnet, you would find the 5.5-litres twin-turbo V8 engine with a power of 585hp, allowing the car to reach 300 km / h (thanks to the removal of the limitation imposed on the standard version). A staggering 4.2 seconds was enough to go from 0 to 100 km / h in this impressive machine. To start with, Mercedes would only market these cars in pairs at the price of €749,000. A little while later, they then allowed those cars to be sold separately for the sum of €380,000 each.
The car we are offering was first registered in Austria in July 2015; this car is limited edition No 8, out of the 19 produced. A plate inside the car shows the number 8, linked to the eighth Grand Prix during the 2014 season in Spielberg, won by Mercedes. It was purchased by our collector in one of our Monaco sales in July 2017, when it showed 28 km on the odometer, which already corresponded to its mileage when first inspected in July 2015 by Mercedes Salzburg. Recognizing the historical significance of this piece, our collector decided to exhibit it alongside his other prestigious cars, and has driven it very sparingly, since it now shows 47 km on the odometer. Therefore, the car is in new condition and is considered to have never been on the road, which makes it even more exceptional.
Impact on VAT: As the vehicle has been driven less than 6,000 kilometers, it can be considered “as new” for VAT purposes. Please contact your local tax authorities for confirmation prior to purchase.
Please note that the car is sold without the French technical inspection.
