In order to take advantage of the 'retro design' trend that was widely exploited in the late 90s and early 2000s by models such as the New Beetle and the new Mini, Ford decided to concentrate on the Thunderbird, a car for which recent developments had been particularly uninspiring. The manufacturer designed a model that drew heavily on the very first 'T-Bird' from 1955, from which it borrowed the round headlights, the 'potato chip cutter' grille, the hood scoop, the round rear lights and the characteristic porthole in the rear hard-top pillar. The fluid, elegant design was conceived under the direction of Jack Telnack, Ford's Vice President of Design. Mechanically, it was based on a Lincoln LS platform and powered by a Jaguar-sourced 3.9-litre V8 engine mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox.
After presenting the concept car for this new Thunderbird at the Detroit Motor Show in 1999, the manufacturer began delivering the first production models in 2001.
This superb car was delivered new at the beginning of December 2002 to its first and current owner, a Monegasque businessman. As such, it has only had one owner. A great car enthusiast, he was struck by the car’s elegance and flowing lines, and by its modern resemblance to its 1955 predecessor.
As the owner of multiple cars, he has driven this one very little, but has maintained it meticulously. Having been stored in his heated garage alongside beautiful modern GTs, it has only 7150 original km, making it an exceptional opportunity in this almost new condition. Its black leather interior has been completely preserved by means of custom-made white cotton covers, which will be supplied with the car. All the future owner has to do is enjoy it, hair in the wind, en route to the most beautiful beaches of Ramatuelle - displaying elegance and modernity while paying tribute to the prestigious 1955 T-Bird.
