On 18 October 2024, Artcurial will present an all-new thematic sale Sweet Dreams encompassing the realms of design of the 80s.
Studio Totem (1980-1987)
Pair of “Manitoba” bridge, 1986
Estimate: €2,500-3,500
This multifaceted period, marked by an expansion of freedoms and a wild nightlife, troubled by social concerns, stimulates the creativity of young generations. Genres become less distinct, styles blend, and forms multiply in a frenzy of varied expressions.
Treated as a true thematic project, the sale will reflect collectors' enthusiasm for the creations of this prolific decade, in which their interest continues to grow.
Strong individualities, an experimental spirit, and extraordinary stylistic diversity reign in the design world of this decade. It is distinguished by two trends: on one hand, the democratization and accessibility of design creations championed by Philippe Starck; and on the other hand, the existence of pieces produced in limited editions that explore new materials and techniques.
The sale will highlight minimalist and conceptual post-modernism, as well as bold pieces where creators play with shapes, colors, and references.
Elisabeth Garouste (born 1946) & Mattia Bonetti (born 1952)
“Alan” Sofa, 1990
Estimate: €8,000-12,000
