The artwork Gilbert & George and David Hockney dined at 8 o'clock on Wednesday 14th of May 1969 consists of a printed menu and pieces of food from the meal shared by the artists with David Hockney during "The Meal", one of their first art performances (Living Sculpture) in 1969. The party, organised by the artists and hosting thirteen people, is the very object of the work, combining their daily life with their artistic vision: life and art are one and the same.
