Launched in 1949, the Matchless G80 was fitted with a long-stroke single-cylinder engine with a separate 4-speed gearbox. With this slightly compressed engine, this “quiet” but charming machine had a substantial thrust, a characteristic appreciated by travellers and enthusiasts of trips on two wheels. Capable of reaching a top speed of 130 km/h, the G80 was flexible enough to travel at 30 km/h on the last gear! Almost entirely black, with a chrome and painted tank as well as a wide saddle with red piping, the G80 matches the aesthetic standards of English motorcycles of the mid-1950s. This example was sold in continental Europe, as evidenced by its speedometer graduated in km/h. It was in Netherlands that its current owner bought it in 2017, seduced by its pleasant patina and its good working order. This Matchless G80 S has not been on the road in recent years and will need a standard service to ride with complete peace of mind. Its state of preservation will not fail to attract connoisseurs.
